Came here for the launch of the Happy Hour. This is a far better Happy Hour spot than club. It was less crowded and more well lit and you could really see how nice the space actually is. The drinks are still pricey though and the space is still pretty small. I would only come here for a Happy Hour or on an off night i.e. NOT Friday or Saturday.

Clean and modern venue. A bit too crowded on the weekends. Dance floor not so big nor workable for dancing.
However, its a cute place to just hang out on the couch enjoy some drinks and hordores especially now with their grand opening of happy hour!
If you are wondering where all the douchebags are, Vessel is the place to go find them. It was accurately named, "vessel of assholes."

$2200 for 5 bottles???? They even tried to include $20 entrance fee on the tab. what a freaking ripoff
The place plays house/techno energy 92.7 music. This place is average.

I go out A LOT. It's a major part of my job as a performer. I'd heard of shows at Vessel but had never been. This night, I was excited to go and support 1.) an artist I loved (DJ Craze) 2.) a pretty cool venue (as far as I knew) and it's staff. After 11 years in many different bars & clubs in SF it's clear to me that when I'm experiencing a venue, I'm often experiencing a reflection of the people who work there and who own it.
I'm usually on the guest list, but was happy to pay the cover by buying tickets through going.com, walked right up with my posse and was inside in 1 minute even though there was a line of folks who were paying at the door. It felt good to know that I wasn't receiving any special treatment because of what I do, but simply because I was a pre-paying patron of the club.
Coat check woman was wonderful, cheerful and sweet. People weren't tipping although it was only $5 to $10 to get in and no charge for coat check! She could have been jaded or bitchy but wasn't. That to me says something positive about the management of the club in general.
So much fun going down those stairs with my friends. It felt like the scene in "Clueless" when they walk into the Val Party. hehe. Anywhoo.
Amazing sound system that steadily got louder and louder through the night. That's why I couldn't give it 5 stars. The sound person really needs to be on it in a venue this lovely. It was ruining most of my friends' time on the dancefloor. I was happy I remembered my ear plugs. Also they should probably just start providing packs of them at the coat check. It seriously is one of the cleanest systems in the city for a venue that size so, it needs perpetual tweaking with DJs and performers who are hyped, slightly wasted and who are probably ALWAYS turning up every system they play on.
RECAP :: Great night overall. Sound people need to be on it. Door guy put my coat on for me, that was a nice cherry on top.
Rock on Vessel, I'll be seeing ya again soon!

My "friend" told us to try this place but I think it was setup-
We heard about the free admission and a 944 magazine party and we were sure that it would be great - there were about 25 of us- we called ahead they said it would be ok! The when we got there they said they couldn't accept us- then when we were walking away they said they can accept 20
of us-
don't consider this person a friend-
i had a pretty good time here last night. the atmosphere reminds me a lot of new york -- swanky decor, good music, velvet rope, cover charge / table service. people complain about the line and the bouncers, but i thought the bouncers were pretty nice. maybe because they let me in ahead of the line... anyway, it's a little too crowded and claustrophobic, but the drinks are sizable and the music is good.
Great venue! For once a clean, classy, fun place. The crowd is not bad, half good - half eh. This place has a nice layout and a clean design. The bouncers are pretty snooty, definitely get on a guestlist if possible. They take good care of this club (or maybe it's still new), but it doesn't feel grimy and dirty like most seem too... despite the dark light. The bathrooms are interesting... guys and girls have stalls right across from each other, it's basically one bathroom with multiple stalls split for guys and girls. Shared sinks. The music is ok, it's on and off but definitely danceable. I like the tree they stuck in the middle of the tables, this place has a good design to it. Nice, not too big, not too small, just perfect for a medium sized crowd. The matre'd is really nice as well. There's a nice designated smoking room in the back of the club.
Got here around 11:15pm and didn't get in til around midnight. Cover was $20. Music was good, but it was way packed, and kinda small. Drinks are strong..or the only drink I got managed to get me drunk...maybe cuz I didn't eat for a few hours and the fact I didn't know that tokyo ice tea was killer?? haha. But overall, good experience, good music, just waiting and cover sucked ass.
-1 we waited at the front of the line for 45 minutes.
-1 bouncer lets in all the girls in our group 30 minutes before letting the rest of us in.
-1 cover was $20. are you kidding me, this place is the size of an apt and it was PACKED. I can't even complain about the latter though..
+1 bartenders were actually speedy and made strong drinks
-100 2 members of our group never got in, and the bouncer told my friend that if she sucked him off, he'd let the remaining 2 in. wtf.
total: -102. could be a cool place, but just had a rough exp there. BTW, we left an hour later for Bubble Lounge at about 12:45 and there was still a huge line outside.
We went to Vessel on a Wednesday night after 10 PM. The cover was $10 each and coat check was free.
I was a little bit intimidated going down the stairs because the carpet is black and I couldn't see where I was stepping. Luckily, I didn't fall down in my four inch heels.
When we first got in the place was kind of dead. People were mostly sitting around and only one or two people were on the dance floor. Drinks were cheap ($4 wells).
The music started out sort of Techno but changed-to what, I don't know. I got pretty inebriated. As it got later and more crowded, the dance floor filled up. The crowd was diverse and seemed to be mostly hipster/trendy people.
Overall, the venue was nice and clean, but if I go again it would have to be when they're playing hip hop or top 40.
Hm...let's break it down from beginning to end. I came here on a Friday night so...
PARKING - Ample street parking. No street cleaning on Friday nights so no worries! I parked on the corner of Post and Stockton and it was almost like having a VIP spot. It was uber close but just be careful of one way streets.
GETTING IN - As a girl, I felt ignored by the guy letting people into the club. We came with a group of 10 (5 guys, 5 girls) and he let 3 girls in first, then cut the rest off. He was a bit standoff-ish but whatever, I would be too if I worked at such a swanky club that had an LA feel to it. Btw, I've read previous reviews about this place and ladies, be prepared to pay $20 to get in. Doesn't matter if you have a nice rack -- you're paying. I paid. Guys are $20 too. I believe the $20 you pay does cover coat check, so you really don't have to stand in line and freeze. Also, I got kinda pissed off that so many people were getting in ahead of us, but don't be alarmed -- they either know someone who works there or they got table service, so that's already 1 up on you.
ATMOSPHERE - I wanted to bitch slap everyone there. Seriously. Pretentious is the word to describe everyone. I was ordering at the bar, I slipped half my body away to give my friend something, then this bitch literally pushes me out of my spot and tries to order. I DIDN'T EVEN GET MY DRINKS YET!! I turned around and said "EXCUSE ME" and she gave me this "omg don't hurt me" look. Yeah, that look did work wonders for you b/c I was seriously inches away from shoving her ass. Don't worry, I'm really nice if I like you...
DRINKS/BAR - About $10 for drinks: Goose, Black Label (instant vomit), Patron, etc. I thought it was going to be more expensive than that but there are other places in the city that charge more than that. Oh and sometime during the night, the bar tenders were passing out OTTER POPS!!!! 10 effing stars for that! I've NEVER been to a club/bar where they passed out otter pops. That definitely put a smile on my face. I did ask the bartender for more but he didn't have anymore, but proceeded to graciously leap 5 feet over to snag unclaimed otter pops from the other side of the bar and happidly handed them to me. He's awesome. I didn't get his name but I'm definitely going back to order more drinks from him.
TEMPERATURE - HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOT HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT. Find an air vent AND STAY THERE. I was UBER sweaty in there, so were my buds.
BATHROOMS - I was sooooooooooo confused. It's just one general area for guys and girls. You walk around the club (which is literally one giant square) and the first thing you see are sinks, mirrors, paper towels. Hang a right or left depending on which side you came in from and BAM! 4 guy stalls and 4 girl stalls, facing eachother (with a door of course). It was kinda neat. Bathrooms were clean but progressively got dirtier. But hey, at least they didn't run out of seat covers or toilet paper. Yay for that!
MUSIC - We went on a Friday night and they were playing hip hop! Lucky us. I heard that they do house nights, or techno nights or something but the DJ they had was awesome. He (or she?) threw in old school 90's hits w/ the new school, and it was some good picks. 5 stars for the music.
I would come back here. Paying $20 cover actually forced me to have a better time than other places where I don't shell out greens for cover. I would definitely check this place out if you haven't yet but make sure you have your A game on -- be a bit pretentious, dress nice (oh and for girls who despise heels, I got in with Rainbow flip flops so no worries, haha), have money on you, keep a look out for otter pops at the bar and a giant tree in the middle of the tables. Weiiirrdddd...

***FIRST TIMERS BEWARE***
Everybody knows how clubs build up the line until about 11 before they actually start letting people in, so that other club goers see the build up and think, "Hey. Look at all the people waiting to get in, this club must be really HOT!"......NOT! How about, you wait in line and the line doesn't move. The only time the line moved for us was when groups of people decided to leave after waiting in line for 2 hours. Of course there was no way that me and my girls were going to wait in line for 2hours, so a friend and I got out of line and went to the front to sweet talk our way into the club after about 15minutes of waiting and I would have to agree with the other reviewer's about him being a JERK....it's TOTALLY TRUE. However, using our charm we were able to get in...but for those who didn't know a person on the inside you weren't getting in. *FYI* FOR THE FELLAS* Even if you are coming to the club solo with 5 hot girls on your arm, you're still not getting in, and for that matter, anybody who get's there after 10:30 YOU'RE NOT GETTING IN. You'll be STANDING IN LINE FOR @ LEAST 2HOURS****
The cover of $20 is not even worth it. After dealing with the jerk ass secuirty guy, it should of been free (HINT HINT). The place was definitely crowded with MEN AND WOMEN IN THEIR 40's. The $12 DRINKS WERE DEFINITELY OVERPRICED AND WATERED DOWN. Luckily a nice guy by the name of Steve paid for it. The music was okay, but it wasn't all of that. The set up is nice, and the bathrooms were clean, so that was pretty good.
I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS CLUB AGAIN. It was definitely not my scene. If you like OLDER MEN WITH TOO MUCH HAIR GEL AND TIGHT JEANS.....this is definitely the place for you. A word to the wise****GET THERE EARLY****if you want to check it out for yourself. DON'T EXPECT MUCH!

I love the venue but hate the crowd. The place is really nice, a little small, but really nice. I like the openness of the entire place. The bathrooms are pretty clean as there was a lady in them cleaning all night. It's a little weird sharing them with the boys though. The smoking room gets a bit cramped as it is a very small space. Overall I liked the place and had a good experience. I thought the cover was a little pricey and again, the people were quite annoying. Enough with the striped-shirt d-bags already....and the disgusting groping going on on the dance floor!!
We came here after a law school function and we were rolling about 15 people deep, no cover here on Wed nights and they were giving out one free drink at the bar. Considering I just gave up drinking, and I had plenty of paying friends, I didn't have to spend any of my cash at the bar for my diet coke.
Nice atmosphere, but if you are drunk, stay away from the tree sticking out in the lounge. Other than that, good times were had, but the crowd was definitely a ecclectic bunch of wallflowers who didn't like to dance, but it was ok, us law students brought the party to them!
The bass resonated through my body like a freight train. Pulsating, beautiful bodies moved in hypnotic rhythm to the DJs' beats. The lighting enhanced all of the right attributes of every man and woman in the place. Short dresses, button down shirts... this place had it all. That is, if this is your scene.
Look, 1-star doesn't mean this is a bad place. It just means if you know me and the type of atmosphere I look for in an alcohol-infused social scene, this is the last place I want to be. Guest lists, lines, covers... But if you're coming here, you probably know what you're in for. And you like it. No judgment, I promise.
The one star is for the bouncer who was nice enough to let me in for free after I waited around for 10 minutes to get in to my friend's b-day party at this place when my name didn't manage to get on their guest list. All I wanted to do was wish my friend a happy birthday - and even that was made somewhat difficult here. :\
The simple fact is the people who cater these kinds of bars are cooler than I will ever be. And my only way of sticking it to them is to give their clubs a 1-star review. Play on playa's.

I am fond of the layout of this place.
So Vessel is in my neighborhood, I wanted to like it....I mean really, anytime a club is within walking distance of home, who could complain?....Oh wait, that would be me.
One of my friend's decided to have her birthday at Vessel, she got two tables, bottle service, the whole nine yards....she was promised that her guests would get in for free before 11. Now, I understand clubs have to make money, and charging people for walking in is the best way, but, I arrived at 1030 (honestly, who goes out this early?), and waited in a crowd that was unruly at best. Now, I politely informed the door man that I was on the birthday list, to which he responded, "we are at capacity, you can pay $20each".....Umm...excuse me? One or the other sir, either you are full, or you just want my money....
After another 20min of waiting, the birthday girl herself had to come up and tell the ever so kind doorman to let us is....
Now, the entry aside, I could see Vessel being cool, IF they let in half the people, had a different crowd, and didn't have such rude doormen....oh yes,and $48 for 4 kamikazes?....really?
Needless to say, I won't be back, even if I could roll my drunken self home in two min....

Get there really early if you want to get in without getting a table. At about 10pm, they start acting snotty at the door and raising the entry fee.
One time I was there at 10:30pm...there was NO LINE, and they still wouldn't let me or my friend in and told us we have to wait 30 min...we waited for an hr & half and still didn't get in. The 2nd time I went at 9:45pm, had no problem getting in and proceeded to have a blast until midnight where I guess they started letting in more people and it got way too crowded.
I hate snotty bouncers, but the crowd is good here, the music is usually good, and the drinks are good, so I deal. The layout is pretty nice too with a good size dance floor. Hopefully, a better club will open up and I won't have to deal w/ Vessel.
1 star for the nice door person. I guess a lot of people complain about them. Perfectly polite to me.
2 star for the cool interior, bathrooms, and quick bar service.
0 stars for the crowd and ambiance. Problem was that it was a "special event" on a Saturday and it was empty. Not entirely empty. But empty enough to be like - what's going on here. Not sure how they'll stay in business if it keeps up. If I pay a substantial cover and jump through the hoops I'm going to hope the place is crowded.
Not happy at all. What kind of business practice is this?
They pick people who "LOOK," a certain way in.
Asians in line, waited 45 min plus.
"Certain ppl," "Please come on in, let the "Others," stand in line and wait.
GARBAGE, FECES, POO POO!

Okay, hmm...the only reason I can fathom that people give this place a low rating is because they didn't get in the club, or someone ruined their night. But on a serious note, I love this place because the people at the door, the management, everyone seems to be very welcoming and nice to me. They seem to all show love but maybe that's because I am respectful to them and show them my appreciation with a simple Thank You.
For the vibe of the party, I guess it all depends on who the promoter is, and what night it is...because on certain nights the line will be down to the corner of the street, whereas other nights it might be a normal sized line. Just get there at a decent time, or use your people skills and network and work your way in. Either way, the drinks are decent, the music is great (fridays hip hop, saturday house music), and the people are usually pleasant to be around. Fun place by far, especially for a place like SF.
great location right behind niketown in union square. it was a $20 cover, but my buddy was hosting a party there so we got in for free. drinks were on the expensive side, but not ridiculous. very nice downstairs area with great seating. oh and dave chappelle and mos-def showed up that night!!! good guy to girl ratio which is not so common nowadays. they had a coat check and everything. very unusual bathroom setup. it was co-ed! was kind of weird waiting in line to take a piss next to a bunch of girls touching up their makeup lol. but i thought it was awesome! i'd definately come here again
Dear Vessel,
i hope you know we are not in Vegas and why do your bouncers insist in letting people wait in line for so long and let their so called "friends" in without waiting. "remember me?" "uh...sure! come on in!" are they suppose to be special? they dont look like celebrities to me. Plus why is the cover charge $20 so high? Are you suppose to be classy? vegas-esuqe? i have to admit the interior was nice BUT i definitely wont be coming here again. Also, there was NO guestlist at all. $10 before 11pm yea right? i may sound bitter but i'm not i just want to say your club or lounge isnt all that and that there are plenty of clubs in SF way better than you.
Even though drinks were $12 each, i have to say the bartenders were quick and efficient. SO 1 star for the OK music, clean bathrooms, fast bartenders & many good looking girls having way TOO much fun. *ahem* i think WAY too much fun. whoaaaaaaa.
Thank you,
CY

By far one of the most gorgeous, vegas-esque clubs in the city. Beautiful tables with built in subwoofers and intended to support bottles or chicks wildly dancing. The bathroom has individual stalls and the smoking room comes with complimentary cigarettes which would be heaven to my "Stogin is a Habit" buddies. Music is decent depending on who's spinning but its hip-hop Fridays and house Saturdays. It would be 5 stars if...
DRINKS WEREN'T 12 MAFUCKIN DOLLAS EACH! We're in Frisco not Vegas or NYC. I must say be able to get drink tickets is the only reason I am not in credit card debt, good shit Ry Ry.

Vessel is a glam spot to party with your girlfriends, just what we were looking for on a Friday night! Missed the guestlist, so cover was a bit steep but I had at least $20 worth of fun and from the looks of it my friends did too. Beautiful venue + Good mix of people + Drinks = Dancing = Lost Stuff, but the staff was so nice in helping me find my things... shouts to Marcus! I had a 5 star night :) Like Vegas, except the whole paying to get in part...
"Cute Boys, Cute Boys, Cute Boys," I chanted in line. It's a scientific fact that if you say something three times, it will happen. Sure enough, Vessel was filled with eye-candy.
To borrow from Lauren C, "To steal from Keiko S., 'Quoting Carlos A....we came here for our buddy's 30th birthday bash and had a great time!"'
Did you follow that?
It's tough to get in here, so make sure you're on the guestlist and dressed to impress. Hmm... Judging from my dating history, though, I might be easily impressed. That being said, I still think you're fine as long as you leave the crocs and burlap sacks at home.
The restrooms are co-ed - this is good to know. I was adjusting my cleavage in the mirror (kleenex is so uncooperative) when a group of striped shirts approached me from behind. Had I been the least bit sober, I would have been mortified - Instead I whispered "false advertising" and strutted away.
We threw back shots of Patron ($12/piece, ouch) and enjoyed several bottles of chilled Grey Goose tableside courtesy of Roy the Birthday Boy.
The tables are perfect for dancing on, as evidenced in my recent Yelp photos.
Great looking crowd. Wait, I already said that, didn't I? Since the stairs can be a little steep, take advantage of the opportunity to grab the arm of a hunky guy to steady your descent. ;)

MY experience here was ok. im usually pretty low maintenance when it comes down to judging clobs and bars but the fact that my friends and i were herrassed after a few minutes of being outside of the club makes me never want to come here again. a pack of big scary looking guys rolled in in a white escalade truck and threatened to beat up my friend. These guys seemed to know the bouncers at the place but the bouncers didn't even bother to call the cops. they treatened to shoot him and believe me i wouldn't put it past them if they were really carrying a loaded gun. whats worse is that after finding a cop car and letting them know about what happened I felt so hopeless watching the cop car just drive away w/o turning into the street where those guys were still hanging out probably being a hazard to the people still inside. Which brings me to my next point. Cops beware because I will ask for your badge number next time I feel you are negligent to the fact that my life is being compromised not only that I will gather every piece of evidence from you badge number to the cop car number to the description of your pathetic looking face to the description of your partners pathetic fuckin face it is people like these cops tht give cops a bad name.

Quoting Carlos A....we came here for our buddy's 30th birthday bash and had a great time!
The bar/dance floor is located in the basement with very red, dim light. It's nice and hip. Our birthday boy had rented a large elevated corner of the club (the "VIP area") with two ginormous wooden tables, comfy sofas and a tall tree in the middle. The hosts literally WALKED across the big tables to fill our drinks, which I thought was bizarre. Maybe they should consider getting smaller tables, because you can't really mingle with friends without tripping over the edges.
Anyway, it was a night of endless drinking and dancing. Great DJ, though the music wasn't really my type. The background nature music playing in the co-ed bathrooms was pleasant, though.
So yes, we had an AWESOME night with 100+ friends.
Then why only TWO stars? The staff. Particularly the guy at the door who SCOFFED at me and made us feel so UNwelcome. (long story)

From the reviews below, Vessel sounds like Harlot's shitty twin sister (reference my Harlot review for details).
I can't say I've had a bad experience here... I've only been here once and it was on a Wednesday night (no cover) so I'm sure those factors play largely into my experience.
It's a swanky spot... reminiscent of the Hollywood clubs I've been to. Surprisingly smaller than what I expected but good times were had. And that's that.
I liked this place more than most clubs. Ambiance is cool, and the music was good (came on a friday night. Mostly top 40). There are some weird ass people here though. I mean weird. I'd probably only come here if I had a table.

I came here for a friend who was entering his 30's in grand style, and well I guess for that this place works. I'm not really into clubs with guests lists and velvet ropes but it's not a bad time if you can manage to reserve a spot and get a few bottles. The lighting is really red and the tables in our area were so big there was no where to stand. I'm sure if that's your scene this place is fine, but it's not my scene at all.

Vessel gets five stars when you have a table because you don't have to move around in the crowded dance floor and the servers constantly refill you bottles. So, I was here last night for my friend's birthday. We had a table in the back corner and it was a completely different experience than the last time I was here. Not only could we dance on the tables, we could dance in our seating area and around our table. But, tables are expensive and the place is pretty damn pretentious. Because the person our table wasn't there when we got there, we had to work some magic (put the table in our name) to get in. At least we got in for free and they have a free coat check.

I came here for my buddy's 30th birthday bash and had a great time.
We got some area above the bar roped off and had bottle service, which was great.
I really enjoyed the music, which consisted mostly of hip-hop. The crowd was classy and good looking.
We were on a list to get in but it seems like if we weren't it would have been a b*tch to get in.
I would go back if someone invited me, but wouldn't necessarily go there on my own. I left LA for a reason and I'm not really into large cover charges, being on lists and begging to get into a place.

I really liked this club! To steal from Keiko S., "Quoting Carlos A....we came here for our buddy's 30th birthday bash and had a great time!"
The hip-hop selection was great to dance to and consistent (no Journey sandwiched between Jay Z and Justin - finally!!!). The crowd was both attractive and sociable. The drinks were a bit pricey but since we were in a friend's private VIP area, we didn't have to worry too much about that.
Thanks for throwing a great birthday party, Roy!!!

Very classy joint. A bit expensive cover charge - $20, and a bit cheaper if it's a private party but someone is paying the difference. Good music, nice ambiance, lots of tables and room to dance. I would have to say most folks were lounging rather than dancing - but it's a cool place to people watch.
I always have a good time when at Vessel. I like the atmosphere and the staff are really friendly and don't act like they hold the keys to utopia (a la the folks over at Slide). The music varies from night to night and can be hit or miss. But either way around it I find myself on the dance floor every time I come here.
I also randomly came in one afternoon to have a drinks and some appetizers, and they were damn good. Not a place you would think of heading during the day, but check it out if you get a chance.

Another pretentious club in SF that mediocre. Are we kidding ourselves here? This isn't L.A. man...This is SF. It's definitely too cold to stand outside to figure out if your name is on the list or not. And what's up with the picking who gets to go in? Umm....did you look in the mirror before you left for work today? ....Yeah...You.....
Although I never had any problems getting into this place, I'd only go if I have to, not because I choose to. Most nights, they have trance/techno music, but then some nights they have hip-hop. Place is small, and the bathrooms are set up that one side is for the guys, and one side is for the girls, but there is a communal sink. If you smoke...don't bother to. Just go into the super tiny smoking room where all smokers are shunned, and you'll inhale enough nicotine to make a horse have cancer. Yucktastic!

I should have LOVED Vessel. I'm always up for a scene. I was there with fabulous girlfriends. I didn't have to wait in line. The cover was only $10. The coat check rocked.
So why did it SUCK? Nobody was dancing! If you have no lust for life, and like to buy jersey evening dresses at Banana Republic, and are tittilated by sharing bathroom sink space with the opposite sex, you should get your ass to Vessel pronto.
